It has been a very eventful 2015. But then, it is time to ring in the New Year. And if you are in Kerala, these are some of the places where the celebrations will be in full swing.

Kovalam

Kovalam has been on the tourism map for decades. And the celebrations here reflect this long tryst with the partying culture. Tourists, both from across the country and abroad with families including toddlers have started arriving in Kovalam and the whole place wears a festive look. The business is brisk. The whole area will be under immense security to prevent any untoward incidences. 'DJ nites', night-long parties and a pristine beach, which is safe, adds to the charm of the festivities.

About 45 kms away from Thiruvananthapuram city, Varkala is yet another beach town where celebrations will be on full swing this weekend. The hotels and the small eateries on the cliff are all set to welcome the New Year with cheer.

Fort Kochi with its quaint charm has been one of the most popular places to usher in the New Year. For the last three decades, it has hosted the Cochin Carnival during the last weeks of December and this year is not different. A midnight mass in the old churches, a walk through the promenade and watching the huge 'Pappanji' being burnt in the night and the fire crackers are sure to make the celebrations a unique experience. And people of Fort Kochi will tell you that the 'Pappanji' is not to be mistaken with Santa Claus. The 'Pappanji' represents all the bad tidings of the year gone by and burning him symbolises doing away with all the gloom.

Wayanad is fast becoming one of the most favourite destinations in the state. There are many who head out to this town, which is just six hours drive from Bengaluru. Most of the hotels and the home-stays at Wayanad is all set for the weekend to rush along with special performances and bashes for the New Year's Eve.
