Sunflowers. They were everywhere. For as far as the eyes could see. And beyond were the green hills and a pretty rainbow. And I just had to stop by and take pictures.
Now let me tell you the whole story. The ride from Wayanad to Mysuru has always given me a lot of surprises. This time was no different. This beautiful sunflower farm at Gundlupet in full bloom was what caught my attention this time.
Farming is one of the major source of income in Gundlupet. And sunflower is one of the crops they harvest.
There are plenty of travelers who stop by at Gundlupet to take in the beauty of this farm in full bloom.
I stuck up a conversation with one of the farmers we found on the field. He told us that it takes three months for the harvest.
'Earlier, he said, there were more people who grew sunflowers.' 'It used to cover the whole area.'
But, like with every other produce, the climate change and fall in prices are responsible for dwindling crops. 'It is not feasible to make gains anymore,' he said.
The sunflowers are plucked once they are ready and taken to Mysuru where sunflower oil will be extracted.
You have about one more month before these flowers are ready to be plucked. Why not plan a trip through these sunflower farms?
