If you are on the lookout for authentic Italian food and you happen to be in Kochi - you need to look no further than 360 Degrees Pizzeria in Panampilly Nagar.
Walk into their comfortable space that resembles an underground music alley with red pipes criss-crossing the ceiling and each wall covered artistically. They do not want us to just enjoy the Italian food but also celebrate it the way Italians do - savouring every bite with much gusto. Pizza, probably best exemplifies this Italian way of eating, always meant to be eaten with a group.
Their elaborate seating arrangements are proof enough of this with comfortable semicircular sofas lining one side of the restaurant, while the other has the more solid wooden chairs neatly arranged.
They have also ditched the usual plastic water bottles and have instead placed neon red cork glass bottles. Some thought for the nature too.
Comfortably settled in, you can pick up your menu even as the waiter places complimentary pizza bread with butter to chew on while you make your pick. The menu offers a healthy mix of soups, salads, pizzas, pastas and desserts. You can also order a naked pizza and choose your toppings.
Unlike the western brands of pizza (the ones we are more used to), this outlet offers you pizzas with a thin crust just like in Italy. Their chef Aby Varghese vouches that it is not just the style of cooking that is Italian, but even the ingredients are from the native Naples. Their tomatoes are specially imported from Italy, while they only use fresh mozzarella cheese, which is made locally in small batches.
Once the order is placed, you even get to see how your favourite dish is made from the scratch. Standing proudly at the middle of their open kitchen is a traditional fire brick oven, in which the pizzas are cooked to a temperature of 360 degree Celsius – and hence the name!
What is more? Your pizza gets cooked and served in less than 5 minutes.
While the place sure is a haven for those who are lovers of the meat, there is enough to gratify a vegetarian's appetite too.
Bite into the B.B.Q. Chicken pizza or the classic Margherita, you will be fully taken in by the vintage taste that has been passed over for generations. The Kochi-based outlet has also added desi varieties including a Smoking Tandoori pizza. There is also San Marino and Napoletana for the seafood lovers.
A similar appetizing variety can be found among the pastas too.
Among the drinks offered, the naruneendi ginger is a restaurant speciality and we too would place our bet on it. You will relish the drink not just for the effect it has on your taste buds but also on your entire senses.
Finish off the sumptuous meal with a classic Tiramisu or Panacotta, and you would be left smiling gleefully at the empty plates. Gracias!
A meal for four would come up to Rs 1,500.
