Navarathri is celebrated in different forms across the country. In Kerala, it is the day when tiny tots are initiated into the world of letters. It is a day dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi, who is supposed to preside over education. Almost every temple across the state conduct Vidyarambham. We take a look at some places which are not temples in the strict sense of the word that conduct Vidyarambham.
In Thiruvananthapuram, Navarathri begins with the deities arriving for the festival. Saraswathi devi stays for these festival days at the Saraswathi Mandapam, which is built in front of the Palace and not at a temple. It is here Vidyarambham is held. This is in addition to all the organisations and temples which conduct Vidyarambham.
Vedagiri is associated with the saint Veda Vyasa. He is supposed to have spent sometime in this sleepy village. And the Vidyarambham festival here is one that brings the entire village together. Situated in Kottayam, Vedagiri is also an artisan village.
Thunchan Parambu in Tirur is the birthplace of the 'Father of Malayalam', Thunchanthu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan. Since the formation of the Thunchan Smarakam Trust, they have been conducting Vidyarambham. Various famous people assemble here for introducing the tiny tots to the world of letters.

Vidyarambham is conducted by various media houses and the one at Malayala Manorama draws a huge crowd. Various eminent personalities gather at the various offices. Vidyarambham is conducted by veterans
