Actress Nimisha Sajayan made a mark with her debut film itself and earned numerous fans. She is now considered the perfect village belle in Malayalam films. However, though she has the appearance of a typical girl from rural Kerala, Nimisha was born and brought up in Mumbai.
With 'Oru Kuprasidha Payyan,' along with acting, Nimisha also tried her hand at direction. The Tovino Thomas-starrer is directed by Madhupal.
However, if someone asks Nimisha about her favourite pastime, she would reply that it would be travelling and enjoying the sights.
Nimisha reveals her favourite destinations and interesting experiences she encountered to Onmanorama.
Nimisha says that it was a teacher in school who had inspired her to travel. From schooldays, the young actress has taken a keen interest in all activities. She has been part of numerous trips organised to historic places and venues of cultural events. “I love hearing grandma's tales and visiting the places mentioned in those myths,” says Nimisha.
Nimisha has visited several locations as part of her acting assignments. After every day's film shooting, she finds time to tour the local attractions. “It is travelling that makes life interesting. When you set on a trip, all the work-related pressures that you may face simply dissolve,” reveals the actress.
About her favourite destinations, Nimisha says that, “the forts and other historic places in and around Mumbai are my first choice. It may be because I have lived in the city that I love visiting the forts and hearing the legends related to them. I am familiar with all the major attractions in Mumbai.”
“Even when I have a busy shooting schedule, a trip is not avoided. It gives me much peace of mind. The energy and inspiration provided by travels cannot be substituted with any medicine prescribed by doctors,” stresses the actress.
“Nature's gifts need to be savoured with one's own senses,” adds Nimisha.
Love for nature
In Kerala, it is Wayanad that captivated the film star with its natural greenery. “Whenever I get a break, I plan a trip to Wayanad along with family. There, we stay at a resort belonging to a family friend,” she reveals.
During every trip, Wayanad leaves lingering memories that last for ever, according to Nimisha.
“A place of amazing scenery, Wayanad has always been a challenging destination for seekers of adventure. The scenes that flash by the roadside as the vehicle you travel in moves swiftly along the roads are very interesting,” explains the actress.
The thick mist, hills, dense forest and winding paths always have a new sight waiting for travellers. Meenmutti, Soochippara, Edakkal caves and Banasurasagar Dam are the popular destinations in the area. However, beyond such places are other spots where travellers can feel the real pulse of Wayanad.
Apart from Wayanad, Nimisha's preferred areas in Kerala are Vagamon and Idukki, which too are rich in scenic beauty.
Vaikom: First location
Nimisha has a special liking for Vaikom, the location of her first film. “The love and care shown by the local people there also moved me,” she says.
Now, the actress often travels to Vaikom. She also offers prayers at the Mahadeva Temple there. “I could take part in the temple festival (Vaikkathashtami) too,” discloses Nimisha.
The unforgettable Manali trip
Nimisha's most recent trip was to Manali. “It was indeed an amazing experience. A pristine location located in the valleys of the mighty Himalayan mountain ranges, Manali is a tourists' paradise,” gushes the actress.
Travellers head to Manali to enjoy the scenery and engage in adventure activities. “Though I have visited Manali earlier too, the snow-clad peaks, forested hills and captivating scenery always leave me spellbound,” says Nimisha.
“No traveller should give the place a miss,” she adds.
Kulu-Manali is among the top romantic destinations in India and Nimisha travelled there along with friends. “It was a thrilling trip and we chose to travel by train to enjoy the journey the best. From Manali, we visited all places by bus which presented numerous new sights and experiences,” she explains.
However, the return trip proved to be a heart-wrenching experience. “Looking back out of the window, I felt so sad at the sight of the peaks and hills vanishing in the distance,” rues Nimisha.
Nimisha has visited several places abroad, but is yet to travel to her dream destination, Norway. “I have enjoyed watching pictures and videos of the European country, which is known as the 'Land of the midnight sun.' Surveys have shown that Norway is among the happiest countries on Earth. It is where I wish to travel at least once in my lifetime,” says the young actress.
New Year celebrations
The year 2018 was a good year for Nimisha in terms of film roles and appreciation. The actress and her friends had celebrated this year's New Year at Amritsar in Punjab. “The first sight of 2018 was that of the Golden Temple by night,” she says.
For the 2019 New Year celebrations, Nimisha has planned a trip to Rajasthan. “This is because most of my friends are Marwaris, hailing from Rajasthan,” she explains.
Like 2018, Nimisha hopes that the coming year too would shower prosperity, blessings and luck on her.
