Samosa Point 'Just remember that' and crabbed lollipop samosa are two of the must-try snacks at Samosa Point. Photos: Samosa Point/FB

Samosa Point, run by filmmaker Shaji Kailas' son Jagan Shaji Kailas, is a treat for those tinkering around Thiruvananthapuram with only food on their mind. The samosas served at junior Shaji Kailas’ joint is not the usual stuff filled with potato and peas. There’s taste and variety here and they come in different sizes and spices too.

As you step into Samosa Point, you would be welcomed by an array of fried snacks including crabbed lollipop samosa, egg samosa, chicken samosa. The star among them is 'Just remember that' – snack that resembles a bird’s nest and named after a popular dialog from a Shaji Kailas blockbuster.

The business is flourishing and Jagan is happy: “I’ve always been interested in running a restaurant. My initial plan was to set up a moving restaurant, but I had to give it up as a volley of technicalities stood in its way. That’s how I zeroed in on an outlet. Everybody loves snacks and I wanted them to be affordable too. I could only think of one snack – samosa. The rest, as they say, is history. We never had much of a samosa variety to choose from here in Thiruvananthapuram. I follow my mum’s recipes.”

Jagan invested all the money he got from an internship program in Qatar into the business and when his father and friends also chipped in, the business got rolling. It was a humble start for Samosa Point, the venture took off with just about Rs 2 lakh investment. The young entrepreneur is thrilled that his crabbed lollipop samosa has become a runaway hit… perhaps as big a hit as some of his father’s blockbusters!
