Wish to dine 160 ft up in the air? Then head to the sky dining hanging restaurant in Bengaluru. It makes one recall the hanging gardens of Babylon, one among the seven wonders of the ancient world.
The hanging gardens, which were built in several levels, are believed to have been 22m high. They were destroyed in an earthquake that hit the area in first century BC, according to historical records.
But in the modern world, hanging restaurants have taken the place of the gardens. In Bengaluru, diners can enjoy stunning views of the Nagavara Lake from a position which is neither on the ground nor in the sky. A dining table and chairs are raised to a height of 160 feet with a crane and the entire arrangement rotates 360 degrees. Apart from the lake, a bird's eye view of the Manyata Tech Park also leaves diners spell-bound.
The restaurant is located in the heart of Bengaluru city and can seat 22 persons at a time. The entire table or individual seats can be booked for dinners. Restaurant staff and a photographer will also be present during each dinner.
However, there is a time limit for dinners. For mocktails, the deadline is 30 minutes and for dinner one hour. The menu for dinner comprises grilled chicken, rice, mocktails, and a bowl of fruits.
The food is not made to order; dishes already prepared on the ground are served in the sky. But the attraction of the restaurant is sky dining, not the taste or variety of the food.
Some people may express doubts over the safety of dining high up, hanging from a crane. However, the restaurant officials say that all such fears are unfounded. The seats are fixed utilising the latest safety mechanisms and guests are strapped to them. The only condition is that guests should have a minimum height of four feet and five inches. But body weight is not a factor affecting entry to the sky dining restaurant.
The fare is Rs 3,999 per person for mocktails only and Rs 6,999 per head for dinner. On holidays, the rate may go up.
