The Kumarakom Lake Resort offers an amazing opportunity to experience the traditional architectural styles, culture and cuisine of Kerala in the most authentic and luxurious way. Small bridges across the man-made rivulets add to the rustic charm of the entire area. Kumarakom is a beautiful hamlet of small rivulets and unending greenery, and this is perfectly reflected in the landscaping done in the resort premises.

The Ettukettu multi-cuisine restaurant which has two interior courtyards built in the traditional style is one of the significant features of the luxury resort. “This ettukettu was commissioned by King Marthanda Varma as a gift to Edamana Kelamthattu Gurukkal, his martial arts tutor. This building is more than 200 years old. It took almost four years to dismantle it from the original site and relocate here. More than 100 traditional tharavadu (households) have been relocated from different parts of Kerala. The most significant one among them is the ‘Ayurmana’, a naalukettu (traditional household with one central interior courtyard), which is also more than 200 years old. This was the household of the traditional Ayurveda practitioners at Kottayam. The guests can undergo exotic Ayurvedic treatment at the ‘ayurmana’ here. The Kumarakom Lake Resort stands on a 25-acre sprawl,” says Asha Abraham, the PRO of the resort.

The villas are designed in such a way that it offers ample privacy and all the modern amenities. There are only two presidential suits and they have a private pool and a courtyard. Honeymooners usually opt for the presidential suit to enjoy the most romantic moments in their lives. The chic interiors of the villas and cottages are adorned with exquisite mural paintings which depict scenes from the Mahabharatha and the Bhagavad Gita.
