There are quite a few places in Kerala which turn bewitchingly beautiful during rains. For example, Idukki is a place which glows when it rains. The emaciated rivulets of summer suddenly come back alive. The rain-trip could be started from Idukki. And then there is Wayanad, an equally enchanting place for rain travel. Places like Gavi and Aruvikkuzhi also turn more attractive during incessant rains. Be prepared to brace yourself against winds and to overcome the obstructions of fallen trees etc on the way.

Idukki

Head to Munnar to experience the myriad expressions of rain

Idukki is mountainous and hence the rain comes there first. The perennial drizzle apart, Idukki gets heavy dose of monsoon and places like Vagamon, Munnar etc put on a rainy veil. The waterfalls come alive. It is estimated that Idukki has about 500 waterfalls, big, and small. The waterfalls at Thoovanam, Pallivasal, Chellarkovil, Sreenarayanapuram by the Muthirappuzha river, Thooval, Kotthungal etc get recharged with the June rains.

Idukki looks best in the peak of monsoon. There are many more places in Idukki to see drenched in rain. Trekking opportunities are also there during monsoon. It will be an enthralling experience to make these trips with not so much as an umbrella but with an occasional cup of hot black coffee.

Wayanad can also offer beautiful sights of recharged waterfalls and a nature draped in rain. The charm of the Banasura heights and Meenmutti etc are enhanced. Travellers flock to these places in the rainy season. The intensity of the waterfalls increase as they drop down over large rocks. As they fall, they churn up a milky white froth. The tiny droplets, blown by the wind over your body feel great. It is during heavy rains that the mountains, rivers, waterfalls and the forest of Wayanad become more breathtaking for the visitors.

Gavi

If you watch Gavi in rain, you will feel that 'green' is the most beautiful colour. The sights here are really exciting. Go there if you have no qualms daring the rain without even an umbrella. On the way, you can watch the wildlife in the form of elephants, wild buffaloes, birds etc. The rivulets swell up and they are a sight to behold.

Aruvikkuzhi

The beauty of Aruvikkuzhi in Kottayam gets enhanced during the rainy season. The waterways and canals of Pallikkathode swell up gradually and in the peak rains gush past you in fury. Aruvikkuzhi became popular through the visitors who go there to drench in that fury. Aruvikkuzhi's proximity to Kottayam and its village charm are added attractions to the visitors. The waterways here are mostly dried up in summer and they get revitalized in the rain.

These rain-journeys have the potential to offer you sights and experiences beyond explanations and narrations. Once we get freely wet in rain, nostalgia catches up and we go back to our childhood times. Be assured! These rain-experiences will really captivate you.
