  • Number of tourists from Middle Eastern countries dropped significantly.

Athirappilly, Thrissur: The beautiful waterfalls at Athirappilly are again bustling with tourists after it experienced a lull following a scary fake video that became viral on the social media. Thousands of local and foreign tourists often throng Athirappilly and Vazhachal to enjoy the incredible beauty of the waterfalls during the three months starting from June.

The fake videos of monsoon fury and natural disasters caused by heavy rains had been doing the rounds on the social media until a few weeks ago. The fake images juxtaposed with the real images of the Athirapilly waterfalls played a major role in the slide in the number of tourists visiting the place. The resorts and other business ventures in the area suffered major loss due to the fake videos.

It was reported that the number of tourists from Middle Eastern countries dropped significantly, at least by 80%, owing to the Nipah outbreak in the state in May.
