Lush green paddy fields in Malarickal to host tourism fest


Kumarakam: The Onpathinayiram–Thiruvaykkari paddy fields in Kanjiram, Malarickal are all set to beckon visitors to enjoy the mesmerizing charm of its lush greenery. A tourism festival will be hosted near these beautiful fields from 21st December to the New Year's Day.

The visitors can enjoy the enchanting beauty of sunrise and sunset in the backdrop of the lush green fields. Elaborate decorations using electric lights, hiking through the banks of the lakes with the help of guides, fishing, collecting toddy from the coconut palms, sharing farming knowledge, short trips on cycle and rest houses have been arranged here as part of the tourism festival. Besides, there will be cultural programs in the evenings to entertain the guests. Boat services would be arranged to Pazhukkanila and other inner water ways from Kanjiram.

Bamboo benches and swings are being installed here as the tourism season begins soon. The tourism festival which focuses on the tourism prospects of lakes and paddy fields in the Thiruvarppu-Malarickal area will be held as part of the Meenachil–Meenanthara–Kodoorar lakes rebuilding project.

Various associations including the panchayat would participate in the much awaited tourism festival. K Anilkumar, coordinator of the association of the river restructuring project, said that more than 100 homestays are being arranged in the Thiruvarppu panchayat with the instructions from the responsible tourism mission.
