Kochi-Munnar heli taxi service completes first successful trial run

Munnar: The first trail run of the much awaited heli taxi service form Kochi to Munnar was completed successfully. The service would be operated jointly by the district tourism promotion council and the Enhance Aviation Group owned by Bobby Chemmannur.

Thalassery native Fahad, his wife Sajini and three children were the first group to fly from Kochi to Munnar in the heli taxi. The group landed at the Lake Heart ground of the Harrisons Malayalam tea company on the scheduled time.

Fahad and his family who are settled in Dubai were visiting Munnar for the first time. They were received by S Rajendran MLA, Devikulam sub collector S Prem Krishnan, Devikulam panchayat president PK Suresh Kumar and the children of the tea estate labourers. The helicopter which took off from Kochi at 10am landed at the Lake Heart ground in Munnar at 10:30am.

The visitors can fly from Kochi to Munnar and back in the heli taxi. Besides, they could also enjoy the spectacular sky view of the lush green Munnar. Up to six passengers can fly in the helicopter at a time. The flying charges for a single trip would be Rs 9500.

Meanwhile, it would cost up to Rs 3500 to see around Munnar for 10 minutes in the helicopter. The visitors who come to Munnar too could hire the heli taxi. The heli taxi service would be formally inaugurated on 7th March after conducting four more trial runs. The authorities plan to run the heli taxi services in the Thekkady-Idukki-Munnar-Kochi route.
