Switzerland has been chosen as the safest destination to visit in 2020 by Global Peace Indices. The methodology employed in deciding the ranking of a place in relation to safety uses the probability of natural disasters, the infrastructure of healthcare, the crime rate and the vulnerability to terrorism etc. apart from other pointers like the rate of road/rail/airline accidents.
Singapore and Norway come at second and third places respectively after Switzerland. Luxembourg, Cyprus, Iceland, Denmark, Portugal, Finland and Japan are the other countries in the top 10. Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic are listed among the riskiest places to visit. India is coming at the 122nd place in this list.
At the top of the list, Switzerland’s biggest attractions are the snow-capped Alps mountain ranges. Mount Titlis, some 3200 meter above sea level on the Swiss Alps is a very popular destination for tourists and have been the location for many Bollywood films. Mount Titlis is ascended by a steep cable car ride overlooking the valleys from the base camp at Engelberg. Mount Titlis also boasts of the world’s first revolving cable car called the Rotair.
The highest suspension bridge in Europe is also at Mount Titlis. The bridge can be reached by walk from the cable car station. The view of the Alps from the view point here is spellbinding. The multi-passenger Ice Flyer Chairlift ride takes the tourists above the mountain peaks. The Glacier Cave nearby is hugely popular.
With such out-of-the-world destinations in its repertoire, it is no wonder that Switzerland is often called the ‘Paradise on earth’.
